Meet Our Staff
Dr. Kevin J Fontenot, DVM
Dr. Kevin graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991 at the age of 23, which, at the time, made him the youngest veterinarian in the United States. He practiced for many years in Florida before settling down and making Melbourne his home in 1999.
His areas of expertise include Small Animal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery, and Cancer Treatment.
He is a proud member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and American Animal Hospital Association. In 2014 and again in 2017, he was voted “Best Vet in Melbourne” by the Melbourne Award Program.
He thinks the best part of being a veterinarian is seeing the endless, unconditional love pets bring to our lives.
He has 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 son… 6 children. When he's not working or taking care of his family, he enjoys gardening, reading, and being challenged to fix things.
Heather - Certified Veterinary Assistant / Supervisor
Heather joined SunShine Animal Hospital in 2011 with 6-years of customer service experience and 3-years of veterinary experience. She has been a resident of Rockledge since 1999, is a member of the Florida Veterinary Technician Association, and in 2015, became a Certified Veterinary Assistant by the Florida Veterinary Medical Association.
She says the best part of working at an animal hospital is looking into the pet's eyes and being able to see their emotions reflecting. “The animals are the sole reason why I do what I do. I want to be their advocate and their voice. I take pride in providing the clients with professional solutions and reassuring them that their pets will get the best possible care.”
Heather has 1 cat, Arya, and 1 dog, Ginger. When she's not working or caring for her furry family, she enjoys reading, writing, drawing, bowling, and going on adventures with her family.
Samantha - Certified Veterinary Technician
Certified Veterinary Technician. She joined our team in 2019 after moving to Florida from New Jersey with her husband and she now has 4-children. She has a soft spot for Yorkies and senior pets.
Kaytlin - Certified Veterinary Assistant
She joined our team in 2021 and obtained her FVMA Veterinary Assistant Certification in 2024. She is notorious for fostering kittens from the humane society... she just can’t help herself.
Katie- Certified Veterinary Assistant
She joined our team in 2023 and obtained her FVMA Veterinary Assistant Certification in 2024. If there’s a creepy/crawly, or it slithers, she’ll swoop in to rescue it.
Isabella - Kennel Technician
She joined our team in 2023 and her English accent seams to charm all of our patients. It also adds extra “flavor” to any conversation.
Alexcis - Receptionist
She is our newest addition to our team, joining us in 2024. She graduated in Georgia, and chose to move to Florida, where she found that everything wants to either bite you or eat you.
