Treatments are performed by positioning the laser handpiece on the skin above the area of injury.
For most ACUTE conditions, 5-6 treatments is all that is needed. CHRONIC conditions take longer and may required 6-12 treatments. Each animal is unique and healing times varies by animal & condition. For pets with a life-long condition, follow-up treatments 1-2 times a month may be needed.
Laser therapy has been in use for over 30-years around the world & it is used every day in sports medicine/rehab. There have been almost no side effects reported. Occasionally some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days as the healing response becomes more active after treatment.
Depending on the condition, treatment times average 5-10 minutes but this is based on the size of area, depth of penetration needed and condition being treated.
In people, most notice a warm often soothing feeling. Patients with darker hair may have a more intense warm feeling due to increased absorption by the hair follicles. In these pets, water is applied to the fur and the handpiece is moved around to prevent a buildup of heat.
The moment an animal leaves the clinic, they may resume normal daily activity. It is important to remember to not overexert for a few days as the body is still healing.
